Of paramount importance on the Government list of importance, is the need for alternative energy for the Country for a number of reasons:

1. Unpredictable fuel oil prices
2. Diminishing fossil fuel resources
3. Growing concerns about environmental degradation, and
4. Dependence on foreign oil imports

The Government, together with the Ministry for Grand Bahama, is presently engaged in advanced negotiations with investors for the establishment and operation of alternative energy facilities for the Island of Grand Bahama in its efforts to ensure a positive and focused transformation of the local economy.
 

The Ministry for Grand Bahama is mindful of the recent loss of manufacturing businesses and the closure of  tourist resorts on the Island, owing to high electrical power costs, hence the intense concentration for the provision of alternative energy.
