FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas – The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture hosted its annual Youth Recognition Awards Ceremony on October 12th at Calvary Temple Assemblies of God, celebrating the exceptional achievements of over 100 outstanding young individuals throughout Grand Bahama.

The momentous event was one of many activities celebrating Youth Month throughout the archipelago, highlighting accomplishments across various disciplines, including education, sports, leadership, and more.

In attendance were distinguished guests: Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Mario Bowleg; Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey; Parliamentary Secretary and Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, Mr. Kingsley Smith; and other esteemed officials. The ceremony featured inspiring performances from talented youth, including the Urban Renewal Choir, Lashawn Knowles of St. George’s High School, and the Bahamas National Youth Choir.

The Hon. Mario Bowleg emphasised the significance of the occasion, stating, “This event is not just a ceremony; it's a tribute to the passion, dedication, and resilience that each of you have demonstrated. Your achievements remind us that age does not define capability, and your hard work has made a difference in your lives and those around you.”

Head of the Division of Youth, Ms. Sandena Neely spoke on the importance of celebrating youth, saying, “With our theme Homecoming, it's always a joy to celebrate the past, the present, and extend the bridge to the future. As you build your vision for the future, visualise what you want and strive for it. Remember that your journey is also about the impressions you make on the world and those around you.”

The Hon. Ginger Moxey added, “You are not just the leaders of tomorrow; you are leaders today. Your achievements are a testament to the vibrant energy and potential of Grand Bahama's youth. Let this recognition be a reminder that you are capable of greatness.”

During the ceremony, Mr. Dorlan Cartwright was honoured as the Most Outstanding Youth Leader on the island of Grand Bahama for 2024, a recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to the community. Additionally, a special video and gift presentation was made to honour former Youth Coordinator at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mrs. Carla Brown-Roker, for her invaluable service and dedication.

The ceremony also recognized Donnie and Mary Knowles, co-founders of the Grand Bahama Soccer League Club, with the prestigious Youth Organization of the Year award.

The celebration of youth continues throughout October, marking National Youth Month. The next event, the Youth Month Speech Competition, will take place on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, at Christ the King Parish Hall at 6:00 PM.  The community is invited to join in celebrating the incredible talents and contributions of our youth.
