GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas -- The Urban Renewal Commission, in collaboration with Grand Bahama Health Services, is excited to announce the 1st Annual Health and Wellness Fair, taking place this Saturday, October 26, at the Urban Renewal Commission's Head Office on Queens Highway at 10:00AM.
This community event aims to enhance the health and well-being of Grand Bahama residents, offering a wide range of free health services, including blood drives and various health screenings (hypertension, blood pressure, glucose, prostate, breast examinations and more).
There will also be eye exams, foot screenings, and educational talks on mental health and chronic illnesses.
Activities promoting overall wellness will include spa services and health insurance consultations.
Deputy Director and Office in Charge of Urban Renewal, Senator Kirkland Russell emphasised the importance of health education and accessibility, particularly for those in densely populated urban areas, “We believe that if we educate our people in these various areas, we will be able to improve the lives of persons living in urban areas and on Grand Bahama as a whole.”
Urban Renewal will provide bus transportation at the following locations and times:
● Mary Magdalene Church: 8:45 AM
● Mt. Olivet Baptist Church (Holmes Rock): 9:05 AM
● Sea Grape Corner Bus-Stop: 9:15 AM
● Obadiah Wilchcombe Complex (Pinedale): 9:25 AM
● End Time Church (Hanna Hill): 9:35 AM
● Central Urban Renewal Centre: 9:00AM
The event welcomes all community members, including young adults, seniors and individuals with disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to receive referrals on-site and engage with health professionals from both public and private sectors.
“Together, we are combining our resources and expertise to improve early detection and prevention and to provide intervention where necessary of illnesses before they become more serious,” said Adelicia Campbell, Administrative Manager for Health Education and Promotion. “I want to encourage each and every one to come out, bring your friends, bring your co-workers, bring anyone that is eligible or able to give blood because each one can save one.”
Everyone is encouraged to participate in this FREE event to take charge of their health and well-being
In closing, Senator Russell stated, “Our mandate in Urban Renewal is to ensure that our people receive compassionate relief, and our objective is to raise the happiness index of our people.”
