WEST END, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas -- Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry for Grand Bahama the Hon. Kingsley Smith officially opened the 2nd Annual West End Homecoming and Powerboat Race, held in West End on the Emancipation Day holiday (Monday, August 5th, 2024), welcoming Bahamians and visitors alike.

The event drew hundreds making the trek to West Grand Bahama for the festivities, where they watched a number of powerboat and jet ski races and enjoyed entertainment by local artists.

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey also made an appearance, meeting with event organisers and greeting vendors who provided a bevy of food and drinks for festival-goers to enjoy.

Known as the 'Home of Hospitality,' West End is famous for its conch fritters, variations of conch salads, and fried fish and pancakes.

During his brief remarks, Mr. Smith paid homage to the event’s origins, noting that the efforts of locals like Artis Neely, Junior Grant, Nick Stewart and others back in the 1980’s spawned the event experienced now. He gave kudos to the organizers, and also thanked them, the vendors and attendees for making the event possible.
