Vaccinations

When travelling from different parts of the world into The Bahamas; vaccinations are required. These are necessary for the safety of our citizens and visitors.

Vaccines can be divided into three groups:-

  • A) Routine Vaccination
  • B) Recommended vaccination and
  • C) Required Vaccination.

Presently, this region of the Americas (including The Bahamas) is undergoing certification for the elimination of Measles, Rubella and Congenital Rubella Syndrome. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has advised member states to encourage travelers from countries with reported measles cases to have received MMR immunization prior to entering the Region of The Americas.

Routine / Recommended Vaccine Schedule

2 months DPT, Hib, Hepatitis B and Polio
4 Months DPT, HIb Hepatitis B and Polio
6 Months DPT, Hib, Hepatitis B and Polio
12 Months 1st MMR
15 Months DPT Hib ( booster)
4-5 DT (Ped.), Polio, 2nd MMR
10-12 years DT (adult) Booster
Every 10 years following the booster   TT/DT (adult)

Required Vaccine

Yellow Fever vaccine is required if travelling from a country where Yellow Fever is an endemic and the traveler is age one or older.

All Bahamians travelling to countries where Malaria is endemic are required to commence prophylactic chemotherapy one week before travelling.
