RAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas -- Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Philip Davis, on invitation from Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama and Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, Mr. Kingsley Smith, visited the site of the Pine Forest Subdivision Park in Eight Mile Rock, August 27, 2024.

Joined by other government officials, the visit gave the nation’s chief executive the opportunity to assess first-hand the park’s current state and insight for its planned redevelopment.

Established in the early 2000’s -- more than 20 years ago -- the park had been in a state of neglect for years and was non-operational.  Its only feature -- an old, dilapidated playground set.  In November 2023, the Government of The Bahamas made the commitment to revitalize the park, and in its initial phase provision was made for a new playground for the enjoyment of residents of the Pine Forest Subdivision.

In 2024, with more than 25% of the works already done, further redevelopment will yield an upgraded facility featuring a parking lot, functional playground, restroom facilities, and a basketball court.  An estimated budget for the project is set at under $200,000.  Completion is expected by the end of September 2024.
