Mission

To provide quality, innovative educational opportunities for all nursing staff within the Department of Public Health, including Family Islands.

 

Overview

The goals of the Continuing Nursing Education Unit are, (1) to facilitate and maintain competency among all categories and levels of nursing staff within the Department of Public Health, including the Family Islands and (2) to provide opportunities for nursing staff to accumulate contact hours for re-licensure, as stipulated by the nursing council.

 

Objectives

  • Provide ongoing assessment of educational needs among various categories and levels of nursing personnel within the department.
  • Develop strategies, with participation from relevant stakeholders, to address educational needs that are identified.
  • Identify suitably qualified, interested individuals to serve as lecturers or resource persons for the programme.
  • Conduct educational sessions, adhering to guidelines and protocols as stipulated by the Bahamas Nursing Council, for the accumulation of contact hours for re-licensure.
  • Provide access to educational sessions for Family Island nurses via the Department of Public Health's website and mail services.
  • Conduct periodic evaluation of programme and make adjustments as necessary.
