The Government of The Bahamas is pleased to announce the signing of a new Heads of Agreement with Walker’s Cay Development Corporation, led by Mr. Carl Allen, marking a significant step forward in the continued redevelopment of Walker’s Cay in the northern Bahamas.

Prime Minister Philip Davis expressed excitement about the latest developments on Walker’s Cay, highlighting the positive economic impact and numerous opportunities the project has already brought to the Abacos. “The redevelopment of Walker’s Cay has breathed new life into the region,” said the Prime Minister. “It has restored its status as an important maritime destination, drawing scores of boats and enthusiasts to its annual fishing tournaments.”

The latest agreement builds on previous successes, ensuring Walker’s Cay reaches its full potential while prioritizing both economic growth and environmental sustainability.  Key highlights of the new phase of development include:

  • 16 hurricane-proof cottages and up to 30 luxury ‘glamping’ units, offering visitors a unique experience in the heart of the northern Bahamas.
  • A Monte Carlo-style casino with a seating capacity of 150, set to attract international tourists and further bolster the local economy.
  • Restoration of the historic church on Walker’s Cay, in partnership with the Antiquities Monuments and Museum Corporation, preserving The Bahamas’ cultural heritage in line with strict conservation standards.
  • In addition to these developments, Walker’s Cay will become a hub for marine activity with the introduction of a fuel dock, retail dive shop, and new scuba diving operations.

Prime Minister Davis also noted the broader benefits to Bahamians, with new employment opportunities emerging across the various phases of construction and operation. “This project is not just about infrastructure; it’s about creating meaningful jobs and improving the lives of our people,” he stated.

As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship, Walker’s Cay has formed partnerships with the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection, the Bahamas National Trust, and the University of The Bahamas. These partnerships aim to address the growing issue of invasive lionfish, while also providing training and research opportunities for Bahamian students and faculty.

“This latest phase is a perfect example of how passion, collaboration, and a commitment to inclusive development can transform our islands,” Prime Minister Davis said, adding that Walker’s Cay would serve as a model for future developments across the Family Islands.

Carl Allen and his wife Gigi were commended for their continued investment in The Bahamas, which includes remarkable initiatives such as The Bahamas Maritime Museum in Freeport at the Port Lucaya Marketplace and the Historic Shipwreck Recovery project. “Walker’s Cay is the crown jewel of these efforts – a symbol of hope, heritage, and prosperity,” noted the Prime Minister.

With the signing of this latest Heads of Agreement, the future of Walker’s Cay, the Abacos, and The Bahamas looks brighter than ever.
