Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey teamed up with Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles, Officer in charge of the Northern Bahamas and Urban Renewal and conducted a walkabout and visited residents in the Sunset Subdivision on July 31, 2024.

GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas — Resolute in keeping the communities safe, Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey and Officer in charge of the Northern Bahamas, Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles joined Urban Renewal on a walkabout of the Sunset Subdivision, July 31, 2024.

The walkabout afforded the teams from the various entities to hear the concerns of the residents as they went door-to-door and handed out safety paraphernalia.

Minister Moxey said it was important for her to participate in the walkabout and visit with the residents.

“I appreciate the work of the northern Bahamas police force. They’ve been doing a tremendous job in the community; crime is all the way down and they’ve been present. They’ve been doing the walkabouts,” she said.

She added that, for the most part, the feedback from the residents have been positive as well as requests for more street lighting and speed bumps in the area.

“I just wanted to be a part of it to ensure that their concerns are being heard and are being addressed,” Minister Moxey said.

ACP Knowles noted that the walk through was necessary as community engagement is on her priority list and pledged that there will be more police presence in the Sunset and other subdivisions.

“This Grand Bahama is truly a quiet island. There are some challenges but nothing that causes major stress. However, that does not mean that we should stay in our stations, so I’ve mandated all of my officers to get out of the streets, meet the people and allay the fears of the people in the community,” she said.

The teams have already conducted walk-abouts in McLean’s Town and Sweeting’s Cay and are expected to visit the West Grand Bahama communities next.
