FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas - The National Training Agency in Grand Bahama has embraced the new focus – collaboration and community outreach, according to Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey, who was one of the speakers at the graduation ceremony for Cohort 16 of the National Training Agency (NTA), August 1, 2024, at Kingdom Worship Center.

She noted that this shift in focus of the NTA has yielded many results, as evidenced by the graduating class of 22 young women in Cohort 16. The NTA was established in Grand Bahama in 2014 and has since graduated over 120 individuals with improved working skills in various disciplines.
“As indicated by former board member, Leslie Dorsett-Lewis, I initiated a Collab, partnership for development unit within the first year of my ministry, because I understand that collaboration is the key to success,” said Minister Moxey. “Too often we find ourselves working in silos. But if we can bring it all together, we can achieve more.

“At the Ministry for Grand Bahama, we are proud to be one of those collaborative partners. These partnerships will create employment opportunities for many trainees.  Mr. Miller (Manager at NTA) has reached out to us, and he has asked if our program Beautiful Grand Bahama will be able to engage some of the participants of the NTA program. So, we’re looking at that to see how we can accommodate that request.”

Minister Moxey pointed out that her Ministry’s vision for Grand Bahama is one that is bold and transformative. The Ministry has committed itself and its resources to establishing Grand Bahama as the home of events and entertainment, the home of maritime and logistics and the home of innovation.

She noted that with initiatives like Innovate 242, the Ministry for Grand Bahama is laying the foundation for a bright future. She explained that the Innovate 242 Business Incubator, to be located on the Mall Drive, has been designed just for people like those who graduated on Thursday night.

“We are supporting local startups and entrepreneurs, fostering innovation and driving economic growth, all in a one-stop shop model,” added Minister Moxey. “We implore you to get connected, as this will certainly help you in expanding your reach.

“Through our continued efforts and investments, we are also ensuring that Grand Bahama is not just a good place to live, but also a place to thrive. I was delighted to meet some of you after your training sessions at the Collab resource center.”

Minister Moxey referred to Cohort 16 as a trailblazing group, not only because it was one of the largest cohorts in recent times, but also because they were the first group to have multiple skills training offerings, running simultaneously.

As an entrepreneur and the first female Minister for Grand Bahama, she expressed pride in the fact that Cohort 16 consisted of 22 young female professionals, reflecting the Davis Administration’s commitment to empowering not only men, but also women to rise in corporate, civic and entrepreneurial roles.

“Your success will be a testament to the bounds of potential within our island and it is our duty to nurture and harness that potential,” said Minister Moxey.

“Your graduation from the National training Agency is a significant milestone in the long journey ahead.  Now, it is time to move on to the next step. Do not waver.  Keep going and believing and by God’s power, you will achieve greatness.  Let your journey of a thousand miles be filled with purpose, passion and perseverance.”
