This service is intended to assist poor senior citizens that are 60 years or older with necessary items needed to enhance their level of functioning. The items covered under this financial assistance include:

  • Payment of water rates
  • Payment of electricity
  • Purchase of a refrigerator
  • Purchase of disposable undergarments
  • Purchase of medication
  • Purchase of a bed

Eligibility 

The applicant must be a Bahamian Citizen or permanent resident that is 60 years of age or older.

Process 
  1. The applicant visits the Senior Citizens Division requesting intervention from the Social Services Representative (SSR).
  2. The intake process and form are then completed by SSR.
  3. A needs assessment and home investigation are then completed.
  4. The applicant must submit three price quotations for each item requested.
  5. The SSR then makes a recommendation based on the findings.
  6. The applicant is informed of the recommendation made about whether or not (s)he qualifies for the service.
