NASSAU, The Bahamas - In keeping with its goal to provide vaccines for all Bahamians in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bahamas Government received some 1,390 doses of Pfizer vaccine, and 200 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine from the United States Government.

This would be another tranche of COVID-19 vaccines donated to The Bahamas from the United States, and will be deployed to Abaco and its cays.  Also to be deployed are 14 VAX site medical personnel.  More vaccines are expected to be rolled out in Bimini, Exuma, Eleuthera, Long Island and other island communities.

A send-off ceremony was held Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Odyssey Aviation. On hand were: The Hon. Philip Davis, Prime Minister of The Bahamas; Usha Pitts, Chargé d’ Affaires, United States Embassy, Nassau; the Hon. Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs & The Public Service; Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, Chair of the COVID-19 Vaccine Consultative Committee; Ed Fields, Co-chair of the COVID-19 Vaccine Consultative Committee; nurses and other health care professionals; and representatives of The Rhode Island National Guard supported by United States Northern Command, which provided the aircraft and two pilots to transport vaccines to residents in the Family Islands.

Prime Minister Davis thanked the US Government for ensuring that the COVID-19 vaccines get to the island of Abaco in a timely manner.  Both he and the US Charge’ d’Affaires underscored the importance of maintaining the long-standing diplomatic relations between both countries.
