FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas -- The Road Traffic Department of Grand Bahama is pleased to announce the arrival of a new batch of license plates for the island.  Road Traffic Deputy Controller Kevin Mortimer, during a press conference held on August 7, 2024, confirmed the update and made an appeal for local vehicle owners to collect their plates as soon as possible. He emphasized the urgency of this request, while highlighting the potential inconvenience of not having plates attached to the vehicles.

“The plates arrived on the island last week, and we are calling on all vehicle owners with license plate numbers GF6100 – GF6799 to visit the Road Traffic Department located at the NIB building to collect their new plates.

We are urging everyone to pick up their plates promptly to avoid unnecessary interactions with the police.  We want to ensure that no one is stopped or ticketed for not having their plates properly displayed,” he stated.

Superintendent Christopher Farquharson, Officer in Charge of the Traffic Division in Grand Bahama, reiterated the Deputy Controller's appeal to the public saying, “It presents a significant challenge for our officers when vehicles do not have their license plates attached. As Mr. Mortimer mentioned, plates with numbers GF6100 – GF6799 are now available. We advise all vehicle owners registered with these numbers to collect their plates promptly and ensure their plates are securely attached to their vehicles to avoid penalties."

Failure to display license plates is an offense, carrying a fine of $100.

The Road Traffic Department and the Royal Bahamas Police Force Traffic Division are working together to facilitate a smooth collection process. Vehicle owners who have not yet received their plates are encouraged to visit the Road Traffic Department at their earliest convenience.
