A key goal of the Ministry of Health is to improve comprehensive health for adolescent residents. This is done by adopting a holistic and team approach to the adolescent health and developmental issues through the Adolescent Health Centre. Some of the services offered to “at risk” adolescents include counseling (for adolescents and their families), antenatal and postnatal healthcare, and family planning services. The main target audience of these services would be those adolescents who are experiencing one or more of the following:
- Sexual molestation.
- Low self-esteem.
- Depression.
- Pregnancy.
- Teen parenthood.
- Behavioural problems.
- Domestic violence.
- Substance abuse.
- Parent/child/sibling conflict.
Any adolescent and his / her family can access these services.
- Visit your nearest community health clinic.
- Register for an appointment.
- Have a seat in the waiting area.
- Participate in the examination.
- Carry out recommendations (as applicable).
- Adhere to prescribed treatment.
- Return for test results.
- Keep scheduled appointments.
- Registration form (completed by the clerk for first time clients).
- Medical records encounter form (completed by the nurse or physician).
- A referral letter from a personal physician, including the details of the situation.
- National legal photo identification – passport, driver’s licence or voter’s card.
This process usually takes no more than 4 hours.
There are no real deadlines for this service, however persons wishing to access these services must arrive before 8:00 am.
There are no fees associated with this service.
