The Department Public Works is headed by a Director who is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist along with two Deputy Directors.  Its sections and their functions are outlined below and demonstrated in the following link to the Organisation Chart:  
 

Architectural Section

The Architectural Section provides major professional services within the Design and Construction Division. It provides architectural services to numerous Government Ministries, Department Government Corporations.

Building Control

This section is responsible for the regulation of building construction in The Bahamas through the administration of The Building Regulations Act and The Building Regulations (General) Rules.

Building Survey

This section is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of government buildings, including alterations, reconfiguration and extension of existing buildings.

Family Island Maintenance

This section is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all government infrastructure throughout the Family Islands.

Civil Design & Construction

This section is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of all airports, roads, bridges and storm water drains throughout The Bahamas.

General Services Division

This section has responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the majority of government buildings and several non-government buildings, which are leased or rented by the Government.

Structural Engineering Section

This section is responsible for providing structural engineering for projects, undertaking structural investigations on existing buildings and checking calculations on building plans for the Buildings Control Officer.

Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Section

This section has the responsibility for the design, installation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems for government buildings.

Quantity Surveying Section

This section is responsible for the monitoring and management of government expenditure and cost variations on projects undertaken by The Ministry
