Performed during the annual medical, this service is designed to keep close observation and provide follow-up on school children with specific medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes, rheumatic fever, orthopaedic defects, high blood pressure and epilepsy. The School Health Nurses liaise with the teachers who would be the first suspect or encounter health problems in the classroom.
Any school child is eligible.
- Student participates in the annual medical.
- Nurses designate the child as “at risk” after consultation with Health Team and School Administration.
- Health Nurses document the particulars of child’s condition on “At Risk” Register.
- Student is prescribed medication as needed, referred to specialty clinic and rescheduled follow-up visits with Resident Nurse.
- Follow recommendations given.
- See Resident Nurse who monitors condition and ensures medication and clinic recommendations are being followed.
