The Bahamas Agricultural Health and Food Safety Authority (BAHFSA) is responsible for plant and animal inspection and quarantine, pest surveys, import inspection and compliance with the WTO Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary (SPS) Agreement and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
Agricultural Health requires focused attention particularly given the ease with which people and agricultural products now move around the world. Moreover, multi-national trade agreements, such as the WTO and the EPA, require countries to have in place the necessary personnel and infrastructure to address international plant and animal health concerns and queries.
Agricultural Health inspectors collaborate with Customs Officers in New Providence and Grand Bahama.
