GIS Day

GIS Day is an international event celebrated by thousands of people in GIS communities around the world.

GIS Day celebrations offer the opportunity to promote geographic literacy in schools, communities, and organizations. Since 2008 the Centre has added a new feature to its celebrations in the form of GIS Competitions among New Providence and Family Island schools where teachers and students get the opportunity to showcase their ability to use GIS to address school project topic areas, present findings to their peers and produce maps among other things.

The Centre’s GIS Day themes over the years included: “GIS in and around The Bahamas”; “Advancing GIS Technology One Island at a time” and our upcoming theme for GIS Day 2010 is “Exploring Our Environment and our World with GIS”.

As advocates for the infusion of GIS in The Bahamas, the entire staff of the Centre love Geography and GIS Day Celebrations!
