In 2005 The BNGIS Centre hosted the first Bahamas GIS User Conference. The event proved to be very successful as national and international presenters and exhibitors were present. Additionally, The BNGIS Centre along with other international agencies was featured in The ESRI Newsletter ArcNews Winter 2005/2006 Volume 27 Number 4 under an article titled Hosting a Successful Event GIS Day 2006.

As the lead agency for GIS in The Bahamas the Centre must stay abreast of technical innovations in GIS and associated technologies. In 2005 and 2006 staff from the Centre attended the ESRI User Conference 2006, San Diego, California.
