XII. DOSS Component of Urban Renewal


Since 2002, the DOSS Component of Urban Development Division has been an integral part of the multifaceted approach to problem solving, in partnership with the Urban Renewal Commission, the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Department of Environmental Health. They coordinate efforts to address prevalent social ills, deviant behaviors, and environmental issues. Intervention and programmes are intended to empower residents for better opportunities in society, and positively impact their quality of life. In New Providence there are nine (9) Urban Community Centres, and five (5) Urban Community Centres in Grand Bahama.

The DOSS Component of Urban Renewal Services include:

  • Planning and coordinating community-based programmes;
  • Conducting community walk-abouts and other fact-finding methods to determine community needs;
  • Investigating matters referred for DOSS’ intervention;
  • Providing counseling services;
  • Providing referrals to other agencies for supplementary services to the clients, or Conducting applicable follow-ups, and
  • Providing resource information on DOSS services.
