VIII. Health Social Services Division at Princess Margaret Hospital


Health Social Services is a comprehensive network of psychosocial health care, providing physical, psychological, and social care and support for the recovery and rehabilitation of patients and their families. This is accomplished through education, intervention, advocacy, community alliances and patients’ self-efficacy.  Medical social services at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) is provided through the Health Social Services Division at PMH, in partnership with the Public Hospital Authority (PHA).

Services include:

  • Psychosocial assessments;
  • Counseling for:
    • Individuals;
    • Families;
    • Groups;
  • Marriage Crisis Intervention;
  • Home Investigations;
  • Interdisciplinary case consultation;
  • Referrals to other agencies;
  • Discharge planning and case follow-ups;
  • Means assessments for persons seeking medical assistance;
  • Court representation/consultation;
  • Patient, family and community education;
  • Liaison between Princess Margaret Hospital and clients for Financial Agreements for medical services;
  • Research of chronic medical conditions and development of educational intervention programmes;
  • Coordination of involuntary admissions; acts as liaison between clients, relatives and medical teams to ensure that clients make sound and informed consent/denial;
  • Provision of consent for vulnerable populations, and
  • Issuance of Med Cards.
