A public officer may resign his office at any time. Officers are advised to give at least one months notice or pay one month’s salary in lieu thereof. Vacation leave cannot be used as part of the notice.
Monthly paid officers who completed at least ten (10) years of continuous monthly service or more will be eligible for a gratuity equivalent to 4% of the annual salary at the time of resignation, multiplied by the number of completed years of service (less any periods taken on unpaid (no pay) leave and / or contract).
Any public officer employed in the Public Service.
- The officer must submit a letter of resignation giving of the date that (s)he wishes to resign from the public service.
- Qualifying officers must also submit an application for pension/gratuity form along with supporting documents to their immediate supervisor. Click on the Pension/Gratuity Awards process link for details.
- The supervisor / Human Resource section must then forward notice of the officer’s resignation to the Permanent Secretary (PS)/Head of Department.
- The PS/Head of Department must then forward the notice of the officer’s resignation to the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Public Service.
- The Department of Public Service will then accept the resignation and inform the agency accordingly.
- The Department of Public Service will ensure that the resignation is Gazetted.

The resignation is processed within four weeks. Officers should give at least one month’s notice or pay one month’s salary in lieu thereof.
There are no associated fees.
