The Public Service Centre for Human Resource Development receives numerous inquiries regarding the accreditation status of Colleges and Universities in the United States of America and Commonwealth Universities. Please note that there are six (6) Institutional Accrediting Bodies that The Bahamas Government recognizes:
- MSA- Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
- NASC- The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.
- NCA- North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
- NEASC-CIHE- New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. / Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.
- SACS-CC- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools / Commission on Colleges.
- WASC-SR- Western Association of Schools and Colleges / Accrediting Commission for Senior College and Universities.
The above listing does not include the accreditation of Technical Colleges / Schools. However, they usually operate under the auspices of the relevant state and are basically recognized by The Government.
There are a number of local colleges / universities whose degrees are presently accepted by The Public Service. They are as follows:
- Bahamas Baptist Community College – with effect from November, 1995
- College of The Bahamas
- Nova Southeastern University
- Sojourner Douglas College
- Success Training College – with effect from August 1995
- University of Miami
- University of St. Thomas
- University of The West Indies
- Atlantic College
- Omega College
- Galilee College
Please note: Not all levels of the degrees offered are accepted and officers should ensure that any proposed programme is accepted by Government prior to enrolling.
