H.E. Captain Godfrey G. Rolle RBDF (Retired) Ambassador of The Bahamas to The Republic of Haiti and Non-Resident Ambassador to the Dominican Republic

 

His Excellency, Captain Godfrey G. Rolle, is a career public servant who has spent over thirty-eight (38) years in the service of The Government of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, having joined The Bahamas Public Service in January of 1978 as a member of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF).  He was seconded from the RBDF to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1976 and remained in that Ministry as Head of the Drugs, Crime and Maritime Affairs Division (DCMA) until February of 2008 when he was selected as the first Director of the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (NADS) under the Ministry of National Security.

 

As Head of the DCMA and later as Director of NADS, Captain Rolle’s responsibilities included, representing The Bahamas at local, regional and international fora on matters relating to Law of The Sea; co-coordinating the national drug control efforts of The Bahamas; Heading The Bahamas’ delegations to meetings of: the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), an organ of the Organization of American States (OAS); and to the Commission on Narcotics Drugs.  He was also appointed Chairman of the National Boundaries Delimitation Committee of The Bahamas.

 

Ambassador has been instrumental in influencing much of the Force’s policies and strategies with regards to effectively combating drug smuggling, poaching and the influx of illegal immigrants to and through The Bahamas.  He was also deeply involved in matters relating to international training and human resource management for RBDF officers and ratings. He was the Force’s first Bahamian Training Officer, and was the first Head of its Public Relations Department.

 

In September of 1995, Ambassador Rolle was deployed to The Republic of Haiti for six (6) months as the Senior Officer of the Bahamian Peace–Keeping Contingent assigned to the United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) during the United Nation’s campaign to restore former Haitian President, Jean Bertrand Aristide. During that tour of duty, he held responsibility for the training of the newly-resurrected Haitian Coast Guard; instructing the newly created Haitian Police Force in safe driving techniques; and for the security and safe delivery of election ballot boxes and related items throughout the Haitian countryside. At the end of his peacekeeping duties, he was awarded the UN Peace-Keeping Medal and the United States Army Achievement Medal.

 

Captain Rolle retired from the ranks of the RBDF on 31 March, 2013, and was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Haiti and Non-Resident Ambassador to the Dominican Republic on 1 April of the same year, posts that he currently holds.   Ambassador Rolle was born on the island of Exuma on 26 January, 1954, and is married to the former Rochelle Munnings. He is the father of four (4) children.
