Ms. Indirah Belle, MSc.

Manager, National Drugs Observatory

Inspector Indirah Belle is a veteran Police Officer currently serving as the Manager of the National Drugs Observatory within the National Drug Secretariat, Ministry of National Security, Her duties include; preparation of the annual Drug Situation Report, maintenance of the local Drug Information Network and assist with the formulation of policies and strategies in drug control.

 

Previously she work as a Researcher and Policy Writer in the Organizational Development Section of the Research and Planning Unit, Royal Bahamas Police Force. Her duties included; conducting research for the implementation of change management policies and procedures; conducting needs assessment analysis for police and fire services, manpower, equipment and facilities requirement. Additionally she assists with the preparation and editing of departmental correspondents and correspondents for other government, non-government and international agencies.

 

Her initial knowledge and practical experience of the field of policing began at the Central Division, New Providence District. Having been posted at the main Central Station, the Paradise Bridge Station, Paradise Airport Station and Nassau Street Police Station, she has had the opportunity to perform many diverse roles. These include: Station Orderly, Scenes of Crime Officer, Inquiry Officer, Magistrate Court Orderly and Community policing Officer. Over the course of executing her duties, she has developed skills about station administration, crime scene management, criminal investigations and the application of the community policing philosophy as a tool for the management of crime.

 

To compliment, her practical knowledge of the field of policing, she has received a master’s of science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, U.S.A. This acquired knowledge has increased her level of understanding regarding the theoretical perspectives of crime and delinquency and the administration of justice. Additionally, this course of study has increased her critical and analytical ability to engage in organizational problem solving necessary for the department’s continued growth and development.
